Calvin Whilby was born St.Catherine, Jamaica in 1976. He was raised by his grandmother. Following his grandmother’s death he moved to Kingston and settled in the Rema district where he was drawn into gang violence in the area. He was invited to attend a church service and, inspired by the biblical parable, he became known as the Prodigal Son.Son had no previous secular experience in music. He was introduced to famed producer Dannie Brownie who soon became both a mentor and friend. Brownie guided Son through his musical career and continues to be his ministry partner.

Whilby has a long list of industry accolades and has received several mainstream awards including: Jamaica Federation of Musicians, best new gospel artiste, The Xnews award, Jamaica Federation of Musicians best male gospel vocalist and Irie FM’s gospel artiste of the year  along with other awards including the Marlin Awards for Outstanding Reggae Recording of the year and Outstanding DJ Vocal Performance of the year . He has achieved and numerous number-one spots on charts like thr UK’s United by 1, Love 101 FM Jamaica, Flow FM Canada, Mystic 98, Fort Lauderdale, Florida and the UK’s Soulcare.

Prodigal Son has shared stages internationally with gospel artists such as CeCe Wynans, Yolanda Adams, Kirk Franklin as well as mainstream artists including Bounty Killa, Shaggy ,Destiny’s Child, Maxi Priest and Jimmy Cliff. Prodigal Son continues to inspire audiences, engage minds, and uplift spirits with his popular songs. Most recently, Prodigal Son has teamed up with Island Roots Music Group for the Black Sheep Tour celebrating a legacy of 25 years in the music industry and producing his newest hit song “No Stress Zone! “
